Beyond the Unitarity Bound in AdS/CFT
(10/5/2011) 55 minutes

description:

AdS/CFT is a broad term that refers to the correspondence between gravitational theories and quantum field theories (QFT) in one lower dimension. The seemingly different nature of both theories raises the question of how the various features of each description are related to one another. In the best understood examples, it turns out that the QFT's are conformal field theories (CFT), which, if required to be unitary, cannot contain operators whose conformal dimension is below a certain bound. In this talk, we examine the implications of this bound on the gravitational side via a simple toy model example involving a scalar field.
