description:
Data in the fields of molecular biology are dispersed throughout multiple databases and web sites. A researcher wishing to explore all available data for a gene or a species inevitably faces the challenge of visiting multiple online databases and mastering their data extraction interfaces. NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) technologies have in turn drastically changed the landscape of biological data: molecular biology has entered the era of Big Data, with 10-fold data volume increase every 3 years. To navigate these data and translate them into knowledge, the community needs new technologies for search, integration, and retrieval of data.
