description:

Conventional biomedical and public health training of epidemiologists and environmental scientists will no longer be sufficient for research conducted in the locations most profoundly affected by environmental hazards. The success of future research will require a greater appreciation by western researchers of basic concepts and the historical background of cultural conditions. Accordingly, we propose the development of a Center of Excellence (CoE) that combines faculty expertise from public health, the basic sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. The product of the CoE would be transdisciplinary environmental epidemiology research that addresses global threats to health.
