Lake Tahoe's Nearshore

description:

Lake Tahoe's nearshore is an important zone of relatively shallow water where the lake meets the land. Valued for its recreational and aesthetic qualities, as well as for its unique ecosystem, this is the part of the lake that most people come in contact with. The nearshore environment is inherently complex since it is directly affected by runoff from natural streams and developed areas. It has greater vulnerability to aquatic invasive species, warming from climate change, recreation, development, and changes in lake levels. Alan Heyvaert of the Desert Research Institute, Christine Ngai of the University of Nevada, Reno, and Scott Hackley of the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center jointly present research findings and recommendations that address Lake Tahoe's aquatic nearshore environment.
