description:
The overriding significance of health, the inequalities in heath care delivery, and the staggering cost of health care delivery in the US call for a major involvement of Engineering in Medicine to open new cost-effective approaches. This opportunity exists today and UCSD is in an optimal position with an ideal assembly of first-rate Engineering and Medical Schools and biological sciences. The direct engagement between clinical activity and academic engineering is a major untapped opportunity at UCSD so that optimal pathways for interactions between these complementary disciplines can be developed.
