description:
Meeting the fertility desires and needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) is an urgent human rights and public health issue globally. In an era where antiretroviral treatment is leading to increased health and prolonged life, women and men living with HIV have an increasing desire to have children. Having children represents normality for PLHIV in South Africa, giving them hope and a reason to live. Dr. Mindry will discuss her recent research findings regarding the fertility desires, needs and options available to PLHIV in South Africa based on research conducted with clients and providers at 3 hospital sites in greater Durban, South Africa
