Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz is the Scientific Director of the S╞o Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), professor of physics at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Professor Brito Cruz has also been Unicamp's Director of the Physics Institute, Dean of Research from 1994 to 1998 and Rector from 2002 to 2005. At FAPESP, one of the main research funding agencies in Brazil, he oversees the rigorous peer review of eighteen thousand research proposals in all fields every year. He has organized broad research programs in Bioenergy and Global Climate Change, fostering collaboration and co-funding with industry and international agencies.
