description:
A group of UCSD faculty from across VC areas and divisions propose an initiative titled "the Societal Impact and Social Ethics of Science, Technology and Medicine." Since UCSD is a public university we propose a fairly novel design where we include the public's ethics in ethical debates, with intellectual activity running the gamut from social to individual ethics and from theoretical to applied work. Examples of the sorts of ethical questions and types of societal impacts that will be investigated are provided.
