description:
Emerging infectious diseases are a major burden on public health and global economies, including newly evolved pathogens (multi-drug resistant organisms), pathogens affecting humans for the first time (HIV or SARS), or pathogens that have increased in incidence (Clostridium difficile). UCSD is one of the best prepared academic centers in the country to identify, diagnose, and characterize emerging infections.
