description:
Physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death in the US and worldwide through its contributions to common chronic diseases. Physical activity is declining worldwide because technology is reducing the need to be active for transportation, occupation, and household chores. Though dance is historically central to every culture, it has been marginalized in modern society. Creating a more central role for dance across the lifespan could not only improve health, but it could strengthen cultures, enhance quality of life, increase sense of community, and boost support for the arts.
